About Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that utilizes breast implants and/or fat grafting to enhance the size and shape of your breasts. Saline Implants

Saline breast implants are composed of a silicone shell and are filled with a sterile saline solution. These implants are typically inserted into the breasts empty and filled after placement, offering certain benefits such as increased customization and a smaller incision. (3)

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants consist of a silicone shell and contain a silicone gel filling. These implants closely mimic the softness of natural breast tissue. These implants are recommended if you have thinner skin or less breast tissue. (1)

Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy bear implants are highly cohesive silicone gel implants that are designed to maintain their shape and projection. These implants are highly regarded for their soft feel and natural-looking results.

Fat Transfer to the Breasts

A fat transfer to the breasts can be used instead of implants to improve breast volume, or these techniques can be combined. A fat transfer offers patients a more subtle alternative to implants; however, a fat transfer alone is typically only able to provide patients with at most a one-cup size increase. When combined, a fat transfer can help disguise and cushion the implants to make them look incredibly seamless!

Procedure

Dr. Elie Levine performs breast augmentation on an outpatient basis, a procedure that typically takes 2 hours to perform. Anesthesia will be administered to ensure a comfortable procedure.

Breast Implant Placement

To place breast implants, Dr. Elie Levine will make incisions to access the underlying tissue. The placement of the incisions will be predetermined during your consultation, depending on the method of your augmentation and placement. Dr. Elie Levine often utilizes one of the three following incision approaches, including:

  • Periareolar: The periareolar incision is made around the perimeter of the nipple-areolar complex.
  • Inframammary: The inframammary incision is placed along the lower breast crease, also known as the inframammary fold. This incision placement is the most commonly used. (4)
  • Transaxillary: The transaxillary incision, also known as the armpit incision, is placed within the armpit. This incision leaves no marks on the breasts themselves.

Dr. Elie Levine will create a pocket for the breast implants either under the pectoral muscle (submuscular placement) or above the pectoral muscle (subglandular placement) or a combination procedure (dual plane). (1)

Fat Transfer

Dr. Elie Levine offers fat transfer breast augmentation for patients seeking a natural enhancement using their own body fat. Using liposuction, he can gently harvest excess fat from areas like the abdomen or thighs, purify it, and strategically inject it into the breasts using a microdroplet technique to enhance shape and volume. This technique can be used alone for a subtle size increase or combined with implants to improve cleavage and soften implant edges. Fat transfer also provides the added benefit of contouring the areas where fat is taken from!

Scar-Minimizing Technique

Dr. Elie Levine closes each incision using his specialized scar-minimizing technique. This results in extremely discreet, barely visible scars that will allow you to feel comfortable both in and out of clothing!

Recovery

When recovering from breast augmentation, it is common to experience temporary side effects such as swelling, bruising, or tenderness. However, Dr. Elie Levine uses a long-acting pain reliever that will help alleviate any initial discomfort. During this period, you should be taking time away from work and other social commitments to focus on healing. You may return after one to two weeks, but you will need to continue avoiding physical activities or strenuous tasks until cleared to do so.
